Therapy

Transdisciplinary Approach and Collaborative Practice.

At Oaklynn we have a range of therapists who contribute to the well-being of our learners. All learners at Oaklynn have access to speech language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.

We aim to work using a Transdisciplinary Model where collaborative practice among therapists, teachers, teacher aides, and whānau is fostered. We practice on the premise that we deliver an equitable service to our learners. We look to build skills for learners ‘whole of life’ whilst having fun. We work alongside teachers to assess, plan and implement programmes into the class environment. These may be individually tailored to learners or as groups.

We are working with an evidence-based approach which means our practice reflects current research, as well as our experience and our school values.  We collaborate with outside agencies such as Talklink, orthotics, Accessable, GPs, paediatricians, audiologists, and other agencies. We stay connected with whānau through formal (e.g. end of year reports) and informal (e.g coffee mornings/ Whānau day) communications and interactions.

We participate in all aspects of school life, and we support professional development across Oaklynn.

Speech and Language Therapy

We strive to enable our learners to develop the skills so that they can say what they want, to whom they want, whenever they want , wherever they want, however they want.
